Life review
In this ongoing body of work, “life review,” I incorporate sculptural objects, installations, performative gestures, and participatory actions, to create space for audience and participants to begin conversations about illness, end-of-life care, memorial, and tribute.
Growing up as the daughter of a geriatric nurse and hospice worker, I had come to know death as an aspect of living: caring for the ailing and the dying were tasks to respectfully administer. This led me to work created from personal family narratives begun after my mother’s death, and continued with work memorializing a friend who died of AIDS. More recently, I have focused my attention in the work on how we learn to speak about and live with an understanding of illness and diminishment, and consider the opportunity to prepare for a good death.
